One has to distinguish between type 1 and type 2 .The former is an autoimmune disease that destroys the cells in the pancreas. Therefore, patients must inject a lifetime of insulin that the body can no longer form. Type 2 diabetes usually results from an unhealthy lifestyle with little exercise, fat and calorie-rich diet. But the genes also play a role. If other family members already suffer from diabetes, the risk of becoming ill increases.

Type 1 vs Type 2 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is hereditary to a certain degree and is caused by a malfunction of the immune system. Through this error, the immune system destroys the beta cells in the pancreas, which normally produce insulin. As a result, there is a deficiency of insulin, as the insulin distribution is initially diminished and will not be complete later. Insulin lowers blood sugar levels by means of its “key function”, which allows glucose (blood glucose) to enter the cell inside the blood. Due to the lack of insulin, the cells can only inadequately absorb glucose, which leaves too much sugar in the blood.
Type 1 Diabetes Is Different From Type 2
Type 2 diabetes is the more frequent form of diabetes, which often starts creeping in adulthood. In the case of diabetes type 2, the production of insulin in the body is slower and the body responds less sensitive to insulin. The latter is called insulin resistance. In the initial phase of diabetes type 2, the pancreas increases insulin production to compensate for the deficient effect of insulin.
In the further course the high insulin production can not be maintained and the initially high insulin production decreases ever further. While a lot of insulin is available at the beginning of this form of diabetes disease, insulin production decreases over the years, so that only a little insulin is present. But insulin resistance remains. It often occurs along with other health problems.
